Northumbria Police handled nearly 2,000 emergency calls during the festive season
Newcastle: Northumbria Police had a busy festive season, with almost 2,000 calls coming in on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve. That’s a lot of people reaching out for help!
They did a great job, too. Most calls to 999 were answered in just two to three seconds, which is impressive considering the usual target is ten seconds.
To make things easier, the police have also expanded how folks can report issues. Now, you can message them directly on social media, which is super convenient.
Rachel Walters, the head of communications, praised her team for their hard work. She mentioned how busy this time of year is and how they’re often the first point of contact for people needing assistance.
She also highlighted that it’s fantastic they managed to beat their target response times and provide solid service to the community. A big shoutout to everyone for being thoughtful about when to call 999 during the holidays!
Walters reminded everyone that prank calls waste precious time that could be used to help those in real need. They’ve made it easier to report non-emergency issues online, too.
Now, if you have concerns, you can just send them a direct message on social media or use the instant chat on their website. There’s a dedicated team ready to help 24/7!
