Families can enjoy steam rides on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway this half-term from February 15 to 23, 2025
They’re also rolling out a free February Fun Kid’s Kit, which you can download. It’s packed with activities to keep the little ones entertained during the ride.
Plus, you can take a trip on the North Eastern Railway Electric Autocar No. 3170. This cool vehicle, designed way back in 1903, was the first passenger car powered by an internal combustion engine that generated electric power.
It’s on loan from the NER 1903 Electric Autocar Trust and is part of the Railway 200 celebrations, marking 200 years of modern railways in the UK.
Laura Strangeway, the NYMR CEO, shared her excitement about featuring the autocar in their half-term activities. She said it’s a fantastic chance for visitors to experience a slice of railway history while enjoying the steam services.
The autocar was retired in the 1930s and turned into a holiday home in North Yorkshire before being restored to its original state.
Visitors can also enjoy scenic steam train rides through the beautiful North York Moors, with a stop at the historic Goathland Station, which fans will recognize as Hogsmeade Station from the first Harry Potter film.
Just a heads up, due to some signalling work, services will be limited to the Whitby, Grosmont, and Goathland route.
Tickets for the half-term period are now available, with prices starting at £25 for adults. Kids aged 0-15 can ride for free when accompanied by an adult.
There’s even a Fuss-Free Access Carriage on select steam services. For more details and to grab your tickets, check out the NYMR website.
