Several schools in North Yorkshire are closed today due to icy and snowy conditions, impacting students and families across the region
Harrogate: So, it looks like a bunch of schools in North Yorkshire are closed today because of all the ice and snow. Forest Moor School and Wavell Community Primary in Catterick are among those that won’t be opening their doors.
Other schools like Dacre Braithwaite Church of England Primary and Hookstone Chase Primary in Harrogate also decided to stay shut. They made the call early this morning, and honestly, it seems like the right move.
The Met Office has warned about icy patches on untreated roads and pavements, which could make getting around pretty risky for everyone—students, staff, and parents alike.
With the freezing fog and wintry showers, it’s just not safe out there. They’re saying the warning will last until 10 am today, and it’s going to be cold with frost everywhere.
Some areas have even seen a bit of snow, especially on higher ground, which just adds to the trouble for anyone trying to commute.
Parents are being urged to keep an eye on updates from the schools and to be extra careful if they have to head out. The good news is that both schools are expected to reopen next week, as long as the weather cooperates.
So, if you’re out and about, just take it easy. It’s better to leave a bit earlier and avoid rushing, which can lead to slips and falls. Stick to main roads if you’re walking or cycling, and check the road conditions if you’re driving.
Stay safe out there, everyone!
