The NWN Over 80s’ Parcel Fund brings joy to nearly 1,800 elderly residents this Christmas season
Newbury: This Christmas, the Newbury Weekly News Over 80s’ Parcel Fund, with help from Greenham Trust, treated almost 1,800 residents to festive goodies.
It was a fantastic success, thanks to everyone who pitched in, whether by organizing fundraisers, participating in quizzes, or donating money and goods.
A special shoutout goes to the amazing volunteers who dedicated their time leading up to Christmas. Their efforts made a real difference.
Jo Fulker, the fund’s coordinator, expressed gratitude, saying, “We couldn’t do this without our wonderful community. It means so much to the elderly folks we help.”
This year, 1,775 seniors from Newbury, Thatcham, Hungerford, and nearby villages received food parcels. For many, it’s the thought that counts, and those little treats can really brighten their day.
Jo also mentioned that the list of supporters is long, and she apologized if anyone was missed. Many local businesses and groups contributed, making this initiative possible.
From Sainsbury’s staff to local schools and councils, the community really came together. Jo encouraged everyone to support the fund next year, whether by volunteering or attending fundraising events.
These parcels are a heartfelt way for the community to say thank you to the elderly for all they’ve done over the years.
“On behalf of all the elderly people, thank you very much, and here’s to a healthy 2025!”
