PC Daniel Burdett is recognized for his bravery after saving a man’s life at Prittlewell Station
One day, while waiting for his train to Stratford, he noticed a man lying on the tracks. The poor guy had some serious injuries, including a severed leg. It was a pretty intense scene.
Even though the tracks were live, PC Burdett didn’t hesitate. He jumped in to help, trying to use the man’s belt as a tourniquet. When that didn’t work, he grabbed some shoelaces instead. Talk about thinking on your feet!
He stayed with the injured man, applying pressure until the ambulance arrived. Doctors later said his quick actions were what saved the guy’s life. That’s some serious hero stuff right there!
Princess Alexandra even approved his medal personally. Andrew Chapman from the Royal Humane Society praised Burdett, calling his actions remarkable. He said it was a miracle the man was still alive when Burdett got to him.
PC Burdett kept calm and focused on stopping the bleeding, which was the most important thing. He’s definitely a hero in everyone’s eyes.
Last summer, he was also recognized by the Essex Freemasons for his bravery. He’s the senior deacon of Prittlewell Lodge, which meets at the Southend Masonic Centre.
The Royal Humane Society is a big deal when it comes to honoring bravery in saving lives, so this medal is a huge recognition for him.
