An off-duty police officer was injured in a shooting in Newtownabbey, prompting an ongoing investigation by local authorities
Newtownabbey: A man was shot in the Beverley Road area on Monday night. Turns out, he was an off-duty police officer. Thankfully, his injuries aren’t life-threatening.
Police were quick to respond and are still on the scene. They reported the shooting happened around 9:30 PM. Right now, they don’t think it’s linked to terrorism, which is a relief.
One guy has been arrested, a 29-year-old, and he’s still in custody. The Assistant Chief Constable, Ryan Henderson, shared that the officer is getting treatment and they’re supporting his family during this tough time.
They’re asking anyone who might have seen something or has footage from the area to reach out to the police. It’s still early in the investigation, but they’re keen to gather any info that could help.
Also, the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland has been notified about the incident. It’s a serious situation, and they’re taking all the right steps to get to the bottom of it.
