Kids in Overton enjoyed planting a new apple tree, learning about care and sustainability for their community orchard
Overton: On January 31, kids helped plant an apple tree in their village. Emma Young from Sustainable Overton led the fun activity.
The children took turns using a spade, compost, and a watering can. They wanted to give their new ‘Katy’ apple tree the best start possible.
They learned how to care for the tree. Compost gives it energy, and they can help it grow healthy. This way, the village can enjoy fresh fruit for years.
During the planting, a curious earthworm surprised the kids. It popped up and excited everyone when it said “hello.”
Amanda Igo, the Overton Preschool Playgroup manager, said the kids had a blast. This was the second tree they planted, thanks to Emma and her team.
She added that the children loved learning how to keep the apple tree healthy. Overton has many green spaces for kids to enjoy the outdoors.
They look forward to watching the apple tree grow alongside the children. It will provide fresh fruit for the whole village to enjoy.
The Overton Community Orchard is at Overton Hill. It’s managed by volunteers and offers a peaceful space for villagers to relax and enjoy nature.
