Parents are furious after Stagecoach cancels the 908 bus service for students in Canterbury
Canterbury: Parents are really upset after Stagecoach decided to cancel the 908 bus that takes kids from St Anselm’s Catholic School to Herne Bay. It’s a big deal for many families.
Ben Edwards, whose son rides the bus, was shocked to learn about the cancellation. Starting Monday, kids will have to either find another bus or walk 30 minutes to the city center. Not cool!
What’s worse is that Stagecoach didn’t even tell the school or the parents. One parent found out by checking the company’s website. That’s just not right.
Ben, who lives in Sturry, is worried about his son waiting around in the bus station, especially since it gets dark so early now. He’s not alone in his concerns; many parents feel the same way.
He mentioned the rising crime rate in Canterbury and just wants to make sure kids are safe. The morning bus is still running fine, but the afternoon service is a different story.
Stagecoach claims the bus wasn’t being used enough, operating at only 60% capacity. But parents argue that it’s usually packed with kids, especially those from nearby schools.
Another parent, Liz Silk, has a daughter with autism who struggles in crowded places. She’s worried that the new arrangements will be too overwhelming for her child.
Liz explained how the 908 bus is organized and safe, with teachers helping kids get on. Now, with the changes, it’s going to be chaotic and stressful for her daughter.
She also pointed out that parents pay a lot for travel passes, and now they’re left with a one-way service. It’s frustrating because they have to adjust their schedules just to pick up their kids.
Stagecoach has apologized for not informing the school sooner. They say there are other bus options available, but parents are still not happy with the way things have been handled.
They’re hoping for a better solution that keeps their kids safe and makes life easier for everyone involved.
