Peckham faced severe flooding today, affecting streets, a school, and a park after a water main burst, leaving residents in shock.
Water gushed out, flooding gardens and even a local school’s car park. Some areas had up to 30cm of water. Can you imagine?
Firefighters rushed in with four engines and 25 crew members to tackle the chaos. They managed to get things under control by the afternoon.
One resident described the water rolling down the street like bricks. It all started around 11am, and by noon, it was a full-blown nightmare.
The Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich had its car park completely submerged. Thankfully, no homes were damaged inside, but the outside was a different story.
Tess, a local, shared her frustration. She said it felt like a nightmare, with water everywhere, even creeping into Peckham Rye Park.
She was worried about how much longer they could handle the flooding. Homestall Road was also hit hard, with photos showing a big pool of water where the road used to be.
Thames Water had to step in, warning residents they’d need to turn off the water to fix the leak. It was a wild day for everyone involved.
