Two elderly residents in Harpurhey are forced to leave their homes due to a severe bedbug infestation causing health issues
The daughter of one of the women says the bugs have been around for two years. She’s really concerned because her mom has developed a skin infection, and her friend is dealing with leg ulcers. It’s just awful.
She’s reached out to Manchester City Council, asking them to move everyone out temporarily so they can fumigate the whole place. The building is from 1977, and it seems like they’re just treating one flat at a time, which doesn’t make much sense.
They’ve even had to remove chairs from the lounge and shut down the laundry to deal with the infestation. It feels like they’re trying to save money at the expense of the residents’ health.
The daughter mentioned that pest control said her mom’s bed was so bad it had to be thrown away. After fumigation, they had to leave the building, but just five days later, they found a bedbug on the new bed. So, now they’re staying with a friend.
She’s really pushing for the council to take action and fumigate the entire building. But the council claims the issue is only in a few flats and that they’re handling it. They say they’re working with pest control to treat the homes and common areas.
