Belford: Emergency services rushed to the Cragmill Level Crossing after reports of a person being hit by a train on a busy line between Newcastle and Edinburgh.

A spokesperson from British Transport Police shared that they arrived on the scene on Saturday, January 4, 2024, after hearing about the incident.

They found a person who, unfortunately, was pronounced dead right there. Thankfully, they said it’s being treated as non-suspicious, so that’s a relief.

National Rail mentioned that the lines have reopened, but travelers should expect delays of up to an hour.

They’ve set up replacement bus services, and tickets are valid on other routes, which is good to know.

LNER expressed their condolences and reminded everyone that they work closely with organizations like The Samaritans and CALM.

If this incident has affected you or someone you know, remember, there’s always someone to talk to.

Passengers are encouraged to check for real-time updates and to give themselves extra time for their journeys.

If you need support, you can reach out to the Samaritans at 116 123 for a confidential chat.
