The NEU called off strikes for February 6 and 7. This followed promises about future pay. The Sixth Form Colleges Association made those promises.

Nick Childs spoke for the NEU. He said the government listened, and employers also addressed their concerns. The union now has an offer for members, and they will vote on it.

The NEU has a dispute with the Education Secretary. The union claims there’s a funding issue and wants more funds for teacher pay raises. These raises would be for non-academized sixth form colleges and should beat inflation starting September 1, 2024.

Peter Symonds College is a non-academized college. Teachers there have been striking since November and participated in the most recent strikes. Those strikes happened January 29.

Graham Childs is the NEU representative at the college. He said the situation hurt his confidence because he feels the government created a two-tier system, where some colleges get less funding. The current offer does not fulfill union demands; they want matching pay for every college.
