Police are using a special spray to mark phone thieves in Waterloo and South Bank to help reduce crime in the area
London: So, the police are getting serious about phone snatchers in Waterloo and South Bank. They’ve got this new plan where they’ll spray thieves with a special liquid.
This isn’t just any spray; it’s a tagging solution that marks the criminals. It’s invisible to the naked eye but has a unique code that links them to their crimes.
When the cops shine a UV light on the stained areas, it glows bright blue. Pretty clever, right? The local neighbourhood team got some funding to buy these spray guns from a Home Office project.
The Met Police is all in on this, saying it’s part of their strategy to tackle phone thefts. They’re planning to use this in spots where snatching happens a lot.
In December alone, there were 64 mobile phone thefts in the area. That’s a lot! And in nearby Southwark, it turns out phone snatchers have a tiny chance of getting caught—less than 0.3 percent.
