A popular wood-fired pizza van will move to a pub car park, facing objections from nearby residents over potential issues.
Thornbury: A wood-fired pizza van called One Pizza is moving from Thornbury High Street to a pub car park. The owners, Italian cousins Esra and Ayse, are making this change due to parking issues in the town center.
They make delicious Neapolitan pizzas using fresh local ingredients and already have a few spots where they trade. But some neighbors are not happy about the move. They worry about litter, traffic, and even food smells. Some think the van might attract school kids after classes.
Last May, they got the green light to set up on the High Street, but things changed when parking became a hassle. So, they decided to apply to trade from the Black Horse pub instead. The local council heard their case recently.
One resident expressed concerns about traffic on Gillingstool, saying it’s a busy road and could get clogged with parked cars. Another neighbor mentioned issues with litter and noise from the pub, saying they don’t want more foot traffic.
Despite the objections, the council noted that there haven’t been complaints about the pizza van’s other locations, and it has a five-star food hygiene rating. Esra reassured everyone that they wouldn’t be serving school kids since their hours are from 3 PM to 9 PM.
She emphasized that their main customers are families looking for dinner. They want to move closer to their customers and believe the pub car park is a good fit. If they get approval, they’ll give up their High Street license.
Esra also mentioned that their wood-fired oven doesn’t produce much smoke and that they keep the area clean, picking up any litter after their shifts. They plan to operate just one day a week, even though their application covers multiple days for flexibility.
Interestingly, no local authorities raised any objections to their move, which could mean good news for the pizza lovers in Thornbury.
