A proposal has been submitted to convert an office block in Edgbaston into 75 residential units, pending city council approval.
Birmingham: A new plan is on the table to turn an office building into 75 apartments in Edgbaston. The seven-story Zurich Insurance block at 126 Hagley Road could become cozy one and two-bedroom homes if the city gives it the green light.
The application is with Birmingham City Council to see if they need to approve the change from commercial use to residential. The site has two vehicle access points from Hagley Road and boasts over 90 parking spaces. Plus, it’s not under any tree protection orders or listed as a historic building, although it’s right next to the Edgbaston conservation area.
Now, buildings in conservation areas have stricter rules, but this spot is pretty convenient. There are bus stops along Hagley Road, and it’s just a short walk to Edgbaston Village Metro Stop and Five Ways station. Edgbaston Reservoir is also nearby, making it a nice location.
Good news on the flooding front too—there’s no risk according to the plans. The city planners will review the application, and we’ll find out their decision soon.
