A new proposal aims to build a 15-storey student tower at Southwark station, enhancing local accommodation options.
Southwark: Exciting news! There are fresh plans to build a 15-storey student accommodation tower right above Southwark Underground station. This project is a collaboration between Helical and Places for London, part of a bigger redevelopment effort.
Originally, they had plans for a 17-storey office building, but now they’re going for a smaller tower with 429 student studio apartments. The design is still in the hands of the same architects, AHMM.
To help with affordable housing, they’re also planning a separate nine-storey building on Joan Street, which will have 44 affordable homes. Plus, there’s going to be a community space on the ground floor, which is a nice touch.
Good news for commuters too! The Southwark tube station will stay open during construction, so no major disruptions are expected. A bunch of partners are involved in this project, making sure everything runs smoothly.
