New tower blocks in South London could provide 55 flats and 762 student bedrooms, pending council approval.
South London: There are plans for some pretty tall tower blocks in the area. We’re talking about buildings up to 22 storeys high, with 55 flats and 762 student bedrooms. Wandsworth Council is set to look at these proposals soon.
The developer, Watkin Jones Group, wants to knock down the old Booker Cash & Carry on Battersea Park Road to make way for these new towers. One of the blocks will be 12 storeys tall and include affordable homes, with a good chunk of them available at social rent. The other two buildings will be 17 and 22 storeys high, mainly for students.
They’re also planning to add some commercial spaces and community areas on the ground floors. Plus, there will be a few parking spots and loads of bike parking, which is great for cyclists. They even plan to plant 73 new trees on the site!
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time they’ve pitched this idea. They had a similar plan last year but made some tweaks based on feedback. They’ve reduced the number of homes and student rooms a bit to address concerns.
The developers think this area is really taking off and could be a great place for people to live, work, and visit. Since the council hasn’t made a decision yet, the Planning Inspectorate will have the final say on whether this goes ahead.
Council officers are leaning towards approving the plan, mainly because of the affordable housing and job opportunities it could bring. It looks like a lot of people are keeping an eye on this one!
