Bristol’s Lawrence Weston set to welcome 38 new affordable homes soon
Bristol: Exciting news for Lawrence Weston! They’re about to kick off a project to build 38 new homes. The council just gave the green light, and work should start soon.
These new flats will be managed by Curo, a housing association based in Bath. They’re planning to offer these homes at social rent rates, which is great for folks on the waiting list. Plus, locals will get priority, which is a nice touch.
The new homes will sit between two other development sites. One is where the old Long Cross Inn used to be, and the other is further down Long Cross. It’s all coming together nicely!
Holly House, the current low-rise block, is set to be demolished to make way for these modern flats. They’ll have one or two bedrooms and will be in three separate blocks, complete with lovely gardens.
A spokesperson from Curo mentioned that these new homes will be energy-efficient, which is a big win for the environment. They’ll also have private parking spaces and balconies, plus secure bike storage. Sounds pretty sweet!
They’re also planning to improve the area with new pedestrian routes and a zebra crossing. It’s all about making the neighborhood more inviting and green, with wildflowers and bird boxes included.
Interestingly, these homes won’t have gas for cooking or heating. Instead, they’ll use solar panels and air-source heat pumps to keep energy costs down. It’s a smart move for a greener future.
This project is part of a larger plan, adding to the 44 affordable homes being built nearby. Curo is really stepping up to provide quality housing in Lawrence Weston.
Sarah Maylor from Curo said they looked into refurbishing the old block but decided on a more sustainable approach. They’re committed to creating long-lasting homes that the community can enjoy for years.
