The proposal for a caravan park in Wansford has been withdrawn due to environmental concerns and objections from local organizations
Wansford: So, there was this plan to set up a caravan park near some ancient woodland, but it’s been scrapped. The idea was to turn a vacant lot on King’s Cliffe Road into a spot with wood cabins and caravan spaces.
But here’s the catch: it was too close to Bedford Purlieus National Nature Reserve, and that raised a lot of red flags. The Woodland Trust, which is all about protecting woodlands, was really against it. They were worried about losing that precious ancient habitat.
They pointed out that the cabins would be just three meters away from the ancient woodland, which is a big no-no. The Trust said this plan goes against national policies meant to protect such irreplaceable areas.
Natural England also chimed in, saying the development could seriously impact the nature reserve. They wanted more info before making a final call. Wildlife experts were concerned too, saying the campsite would bring more people and dogs, which could disturb the local wildlife.
In the end, the applicant, Susan Gallon, decided to withdraw the plans on January 6. It looks like the ancient woodland will stay safe for now!
