A new police station in Newton is on the verge of approval by local authorities
Newton: So, there’s some buzz about a new police station in town. Merseyside Police has put in a request to build a single-storey station on Peel Street, right where the current police car park is. This proposal is set to be reviewed by the St Helens Council planning committee on Tuesday.
They’re suggesting that the head of planning services should give the green light, but it’s all subject to some final planning conditions. The site is in the heart of Earlestown, and it’s currently just a car park for the existing police station, which is a bit further down Market Street.
The new station would come with an enclosed car park, space for bikes, and some security fencing. The report mentions that the building will have a modern look, made from a mix of brick and render. It’s designed to be L-shaped and will be easily accessible from Market Street.
In terms of size, it’ll stand about 7.6 meters tall, with a width of 18.8 meters at its widest point. There’ll be eight parking spots, including two with electric charging stations and one for disabled parking. Pretty neat, right?
They’re saying this new station will replace the old one and will help keep things up to date for public safety. Plus, it won’t take away any retail spaces in the town center, so it should keep Earlestown thriving.
Overall, it sounds like a solid plan that won’t disrupt the local vibe. Fingers crossed for a smooth approval process!
