The demolition of the Travellers Friend pub has been approved to make way for new flats for young people with autism and learning disabilities
Crookham Common: So, it looks like the old Travellers Friend pub is set to come down. Even though a lot of folks voiced their concerns, the council has given the green light for its demolition.
West Berkshire Council has approved plans from Transforming Developments Ltd to tear down the pub and put up 18 new flats. These are aimed at helping young people with autism and learning disabilities, which is a pretty noble cause.
Now, before any work can start, the developers need to submit a few things like a construction method statement and a lighting strategy. They also have to protect the trees around the site, which is good to hear.
Some people were really worried about this project. They felt the area isn’t great for new flats and that it doesn’t fit in with the neighborhood. Plus, there were worries about traffic and noise, which is totally understandable.
But the council planners backed the project, saying that since the site used to be a pub, it’s not likely to cause more noise than it did before. They think the new flats won’t harm the local vibe too much.
