Lancashire Police report a significant rise in arrests for drink and drug driving during December compared to last year
Lancashire: The police have been busy this December. They arrested 331 people for drink and drug driving, which is a 24% increase from last year. That’s quite a jump!
They ran Operation Limit, a national effort to cut down on road accidents caused by impaired drivers, especially during the festive season when folks might be more tempted to drink and drive.
From December 1 to January 1, officers conducted over 1,500 breath tests and about 300 drug tests. It’s clear they were serious about keeping the roads safe.
One notable case involved a 41-year-old man from Darwen. He crashed into a stone wall on December 31 and flipped his car. He blew a whopping 61 at the roadside, nearly double the legal limit!
Another incident happened on December 10 when officers stopped a Nissan X-Trail in Much Hoole. The 26-year-old driver from Chorley failed a drug test, showing positive for cocaine and cannabis.
When they searched his car, they found cannabis, bags of white powder, over £600 in cash, and four mobile phones. He was arrested for multiple offenses and is currently under investigation.
Superintendent Hassan Khan from Lancashire Police expressed disappointment over the number of impaired drivers. He emphasized that no drive is worth risking your life or license.
He also reassured the public that even though Operation Limit has ended, they’re still conducting tests regularly. So, if you think you can get away with it, think again!
