In a dramatic turn, police divers are scouring Central Park’s fountain for clues linked to the assassin of a prominent CEO, Brian Thompson, who was shot dead.
The divers jumped in around 2 PM on Saturday, focusing on a specific area near the Bethesda Fountain. An NYPD officer mentioned that the backpack was discovered between the fountain and the spot where the suspect entered the park. They’re still trying to figure out if the murder weapon was in the backpack.
The park is now a crime scene, with police cordoning off the fountain area. They’re on the lookout for the shooter, who hasn’t been caught yet. Thompson was killed on Wednesday morning, and the investigation is heating up.
Officers have found the backpack and some shell casings with strange words like “delay,” “deny,” and “depose” on them. They’ve also released a CCTV image of a man with a big grin, wearing a dark hoodie and a mask around his neck.
It seems the suspect made a quick getaway on an electric bike, darting into Central Park right after the shooting. After ditching the bike, he’s believed to have hopped on a bus out of the city.
Investigators are also looking into a water bottle, a protein bar, and a mobile phone found near the scene. They think the killer arrived in New York by bus from Atlanta just days before the murder, using cash and a fake ID to check into a hostel. The plot thickens!
