Authorities are urging the public to stay away from two lynx spotted in the Highlands
The Highland Wildlife Park is stepping in to help track these wild cats down. They’re known to be shy and not a big threat to humans, but it’s still best to steer clear.
A spokesperson from the Cairngorms National Park Authority made it clear that releasing wild animals like this is a big no-no. They’re worried about the lynx’s well-being too.
They’re also asking anyone who might have seen the lynx to get in touch with the police. Fun fact: these cats used to roam Britain but went extinct ages ago, around 500 to 1,000 years back.
Some groups have been pushing to bring them back to Scotland, but this illegal release has thrown a wrench in those plans. Peter Cairns from Scotland: The Big Picture said they have no clue where these lynx came from or who let them go.
He expressed frustration, saying that illegal actions like this only complicate things for those trying to reintroduce lynx properly. RSPB Scotland is also working with the police and other organizations to address the situation.
Farmers are understandably worried too, hoping the lynx are caught before they cause any trouble with livestock. There’s a lot of anger among those who want to see lynx back in the wild, but this kind of stunt could ruin it for everyone.
It’s a tricky situation, and while there’s a chance these lynx could thrive and even breed, experts think they might be too used to humans to make it on their own. Let’s hope for the best!
