Detectives believe Roy Bigg may have died accidentally, with new evidence suggesting a possible connection to someone he knew.
Newham: So, there’s this really strange case about a guy named Roy Bigg. His body was found in a freezer at an old pub, and it’s been a real mystery since then.
Roy, who was 70, went missing back in February 2012. It wasn’t until October 2021 that they found him wrapped in tarpaulin in the basement of a derelict wine bar. Can you believe that?
Detectives think he might have died around the time he went missing. They’re still trying to figure out how he ended up in that freezer, though. They found some rib injuries on him, which has led them to wonder if he was accidentally hurt by someone he knew.
Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Allen is leading the case. She mentioned that it’s clear someone tried to hide him. It’s just so odd. Why would someone do that?
Roy used to work and live at the pub before it closed after a fire in 2011. The place was empty for years, and squatters came and went until they finally cleared it out in 2021.
Some squatters didn’t even know they were living near a body. DCI Allen is really hoping to talk to anyone who knew Roy back in 2011. They’re trying to piece together his life and who he was hanging out with.
It’s strange because he wasn’t the type to just disappear without a word. He had a social worker who was in touch with him, and it was out of character for him to go missing.
They haven’t found any solid leads yet, but the injuries on his ribs make them think he might have been hurt before he went missing. It could have been an accident, like a fall, or maybe someone hit him.
Roy was known around the area and had been drinking in local pubs. He had been in the hospital not long before he went missing, and it seems he didn’t have a stable place to stay at that time.
Recently, they arrested a man in his 40s, but he was let go. Another man in his 50s was questioned, but nothing came of it. It’s all very puzzling.
Scotland Yard is even offering a reward for any info that leads to an arrest. If anyone knows anything about Roy Bigg, they really want to hear from you.
