Authorities provide details after residents were evacuated due to a suspicious device found in Longsight, Manchester
Manchester: So, there was quite a scene in Longsight recently. Police had to evacuate some neighbors after they found a suspicious device. It all kicked off on Fencot Drive, and folks were told to leave their homes pretty quickly.
Turns out, the device was discovered during a drugs raid. A 17-year-old was arrested for being involved in the supply of Class A drugs. But the device itself? It was described as a ‘crude contraption’—not exactly a high-tech explosive, but still something that needed checking out.
Residents had to leave with just a few minutes’ notice, which must have been super stressful. They were sent to Longsight Library to stay warm since it was freezing outside. Some neighbors even went to stay with family to ride it out.
There was a controlled explosion later on, and one eyewitness shared how intense it was. They saw police with tools trying to get into a place and were told to evacuate because of the device. It sounds like a scene from a movie!
One elderly woman mentioned that she had to leave in a hurry too. The police knocked on her door and said she had five minutes to get out. She didn’t even have time to worry about it. Just a wild day for everyone involved!
Detective Inspector Christopher Woodburn reassured everyone that the controlled explosion went off safely and that they were lifting the cordons. He thanked the locals for their patience and encouraged them to reach out if they had any concerns. Just another day in the life, right?
