Authorities in West Fife are urging residents to enhance home security amid rising car thefts linked to home break-ins
Blairhall: Police have reported a recent break-in at a home in the area, prompting a response from forensic teams and detectives to track down the thieves.
They’re advising locals to double-check that doors and windows are locked, even if someone is home. It’s also a good idea to ensure alarm systems and CCTV are functioning properly. If you can, consider using a faraday box to help prevent keyless car thefts.
According to the West Fife and Coastal Villages crime report from December, there’s been a spike in housebreakings in the area. One of the recent incidents involved a home in Blairhall being targeted.
The report mentioned that investigations are ongoing, with extra patrols and crime scene experts from the CID involved to tackle these incidents.
Interestingly, many of these break-ins are linked to vehicle thefts. In fact, stealing a car often seems to be the main goal behind the home invasion.
To keep your vehicle safe, make sure it’s locked and, if possible, park it in a locked garage. It’s also wise to store your car keys in a secure spot inside your home, avoiding obvious places like right by the front door.
For those with keyless entry systems, be aware that thieves can clone the signal between your car and the key. To prevent this, think about getting a faraday box, which blocks electromagnetic signals. They’re pretty affordable and easy to find.
