Police discovered high-value stolen cars at a chop shop near Stansted Airport, leading to arrests and ongoing investigations.
Stansted: So, get this! Police found a bunch of high-end cars, like a Porsche and a Mercedes, at a chop shop near the airport. They discovered 18 stolen vehicles worth over £400,000. Crazy, right?
It all started when the Met Police tracked a stolen Mercedes GLC on December 9. They tipped off Essex Police, who then found the car in a yard in Uttlesford.
When they searched the area, they uncovered 17 more stolen cars and evidence linking them to thefts across Essex and even places like London and Kent.
Essex Police mentioned that chop shops are often tied to organized crime. Two guys from Romford were arrested for vehicle theft and handling stolen goods. They’re out on bail until March 1 while the investigation continues.
Detective Chief Inspector Rob Huddleston said these chop shops are definitely connected to larger crime networks. They’re working hard to shut these places down and keep the community safe from the impact of vehicle theft.
