Glasgow’s council is keeping details of a private donation under wraps, with press barred from discussions
Glasgow: There’s a bit of a stir going on with the council over a secret donation. They’re keeping everything hush-hush, including who’s giving the money and what it’s for.
Apparently, some unelected officials have signed a non-disclosure agreement. So, it’s all very cloak-and-dagger.
Next week, senior councillors are set to meet, but guess what? No public or press allowed. They’re keeping it all behind closed doors.
This is part of the agenda for the City Administration Committee. Councillors have been told about the talks regarding this mysterious donation.
It seems the community empowerment team has been chatting with an outside organization about this donation, but they’re not spilling any more details.
One paper that went around says the organization wants to keep things private, hence the NDA. So, when they discuss it, it’ll be just them in the room.
Back in 2018, there was a bit of a buzz when an anonymous donor gifted the council a fancy Rolls Royce. It turned out to be biscuit mogul Boyd Tunnock, which caused quite a ruckus.
According to the Local Government (Scotland) Act, they can keep the press and public out of meetings if sensitive info is on the table.
In fact, the council can decide to exclude everyone if they think the public might hear something they shouldn’t. It’s all about keeping certain financial details under wraps.
So, it looks like this new donation is going to be treated the same way, with the full report being discussed privately.
