Preston: Two teens, William Herbert and Olly Mitchell, sadly lost their lives in a crash on New Year’s Day. They were out with friends when the accident happened around 1:20 AM.

There were two other friends in the car, a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy. They were taken to the hospital, and thankfully, they’re both stable now. The girl had some serious injuries, but she’s hanging in there.

According to the police, a grey Volkswagen Golf was leaving Preston when it collided with a black Vauxhall Grandland coming into the city. All four teens were in the Golf.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, but tragically, William died right there. Olly later passed away in the hospital from his injuries. The Vauxhall had a 62-year-old man who was hurt but is expected to be okay. The driver, a 34-year-old woman, also got hurt but is recovering.

The crash happened on Staithes Road in Hull. The driver of the Golf, a 17-year-old boy, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but has been released on bail while the investigation continues.

Police are asking anyone who might have seen the crash or has dashcam footage to reach out. They want to hear from anyone who hasn’t spoken to them yet.
