On Christmas Day, several inmates at a Scottish prison required hospital care due to drug use linked to drone deliveries
Clackmannanshire: On Christmas Day, things got pretty wild at HMP Glenochil. A bunch of inmates ended up needing hospital treatment because of drug use.
It turns out that 35 prisoners were found under the influence, and five of them had to be rushed to the hospital. Crazy, right?
People think the drugs might have been delivered by drones. Can you believe that? Drones flying in with contraband!
Luckily, the prisoners who were affected have since recovered. But during the whole incident, prison staff managed to seize drugs, weapons, and even mobile phones.
A spokesperson from the Scottish Prison Service said that any attempt to smuggle drugs into the prison, especially by drone, is a serious threat to everyone’s safety.
They’re working closely with Police Scotland to tackle this issue and keep the prison secure. It’s a big deal for them.
Interestingly, the number of drones spotted around Scottish prisons has gone up in recent years. This happened after they started photocopying letters sent to inmates to stop drugs from being soaked into the paper.
Last summer, Justice Secretary Angela Constance mentioned that they’re aware of the problems drones cause and are piloting new tech to help identify them in prison airspace.
She emphasized that keeping everyone safe in prisons is a top priority for the government. It’s a tough job, but they’re on it!
