Police are investigating racist signs placed outside a primary school in Lurgan, Co Armagh, treating it as a hate crime.
The signs were tied up on the school railings in the Mourneview estate. This happened on a Monday evening, and it’s just not okay. It seems like this isn’t an isolated incident either. Just a few days before, there was a suspicious approach reported at a nearby play park.
Things escalated that night, with some properties getting attacked. The police even had a window of their vehicle smashed during the chaos. It’s all a bit wild, really. They arrested a guy in the Ben Crom area on suspicion of assault, and a crowd gathered, which only made things worse.
Superintendent Brendan Green from the PSNI said the signs have been taken down, and they’re looking into this as a potential racially-motivated public order offense. He’s urging anyone with info to reach out to the police. Dickson Primary School hasn’t commented on the situation yet, but it’s definitely a troubling time for the community.
