Drivers in Rayleigh face breakdowns after contaminated fuel from BP garage
Rayleigh: So, there’s been a bit of a mess at the BP garage on London Road. They found contaminated fuel, and it’s causing cars to break down left and right.
The garage had to shut down the pump after the issue was discovered. They reopened it later, but it’s still a headache for a lot of drivers.
A recovery company called Fuel Out has been super busy this week. They’ve had to help out around 30 drivers who couldn’t start their cars after filling up at that garage.
Lee Pretlove, who runs Fuel Out, mentioned that this is the busiest they’ve been in years. He said it’s pretty rare to see something like this happen.
He’s been getting calls non-stop, and most of the breakdowns seem to be due to water getting mixed in with the petrol. That’s a real bummer for car owners.
Lee explained that fixing the problem is usually straightforward. They just need to drain the contaminated fuel, but some cars might need new spark plugs and filters, which can get pricey.
He’s noticed that a lot of people are taking their cars to garages, only to get hit with big bills without really knowing what’s wrong.
Lee thinks around 100 people might be affected, especially since other services like the AA and RAC are also getting calls for help.
A BP spokesperson said they’re looking into the issue and have isolated the affected tank. They’re trying to figure out how many people might be impacted.
They also advised anyone with concerns to reach out to their careline for support. It’s a tough situation, but they’re on it.
