A dramatic police chase in Rayleigh ended with a 19-year-old arrested after reaching speeds of 135mph on the A13
Rayleigh: So, early this morning, around 1am, the police spotted a grey BMW on the A127. They thought it might be stolen, so they decided to follow it.
When the officers signaled for the car to pull over, the driver just took off. They chased it onto the A13, where it hit some crazy speeds—up to 135mph!
The wild ride continued towards Tilbury, zooming through Chadwell St Mary, until the car crashed into a tree near Hume Avenue.
The driver jumped out and tried to run away, but the police were quick on their feet. They caught up with him and arrested a 19-year-old guy from north London.
According to a police spokesperson, he’s now being questioned for a bunch of serious stuff, like dangerous driving and taking a vehicle without permission.
Chief Inspector Julia Finch mentioned that the officers handled the situation safely and that there was no real threat to the community. She also highlighted how well-trained the officers are, especially in this chilly weather.
The investigation is now in the hands of the Southend officers, who will keep digging into what happened.
