After severe flooding in Popley, residents are now in temporary housing as repairs begin
Basingstoke: On December 27, a water main burst on Chineham Lane, flooding homes in Trinidad Close. It was quite a mess, with water rushing in and causing chaos.
Residents had to evacuate, and the local council set up a temporary shelter at Popley Fields Community Centre. It was a tough situation for everyone involved.
Firefighters worked hard for about four hours to contain the flooding. Sadly, many homes suffered serious damage, with ruined flooring and furniture.
One resident shared that her new floorboards had to be ripped out because of the water. She mentioned how much effort it took to clean up the mess, and her husband even had to take time off work to help.
They tried to salvage what they could, but thick mud ruined their furniture, and now they need new sofas. It’s just heartbreaking.
A spokesperson from Vivid said they’re helping those affected and have moved five families into temporary accommodation. They’re committed to keeping everyone updated and safe.
Meanwhile, roadworks on Chineham Lane continued for two weeks after the incident, causing more hassle for residents. The repairs were finally completed on January 9.
Gavin Jobling from South East Water apologized to the community for the flooding and assured them that they’re working to fix the damage. He thanked everyone for their patience during this tough time.
