Richmond & Catterick RDA is looking for volunteers to help young riders gain confidence and skills in a supportive environment
Richmond: The Richmond & Catterick Group Riding for the Disabled is on the lookout for more volunteers. They need folks to help out as leaders or side-walkers during riding sessions.
These volunteers play a big role in boosting the riders’ confidence and providing support. One parent shared how much their child benefits from the program, saying it’s life-changing.
The child has really connected with a pony named Byron, who comes from the Catterick Garrison Saddle Club. The volunteers help the kids develop their riding skills every Saturday.
Angie Staple, the lead coach, mentioned they have a fantastic group of volunteers but are always eager for more. Not everyone can make it every week, and that’s totally fine.
She also pointed out that you don’t need any prior horse knowledge to volunteer. As long as you’re over 12, you can join in, and full training is provided.
They even have school-age volunteers doing their Duke of Edinburgh volunteering with the group. It’s a great way to get involved!
Current volunteers come from all sorts of backgrounds and areas, including Barnard Castle, Darlington, and Northallerton. If you’re interested in becoming a coach, check out www.myrda.org.uk.
