The RNLI launched a rescue operation for a fishing vessel adrift off Bridlington, ensuring the safety of the crew and vessel in challenging conditions
Bridlington: On a chilly Tuesday morning, the RNLI crew got a call from HM Coastguard. A fishing vessel, about 30 nautical miles south of Bridlington, had lost power. It was a bit of a pickle.
Sean Cheston, the new coxswain, was on his first mission. The lifeboat, named ‘Antony Patrick Jones’, was launched quickly, and they met up with the fishing boat around noon.
Sean decided to tow the drifting vessel back to safety. It was heading toward a deep anchorage and an offshore wind farm, which could have caused some serious trouble.
The journey back to Bridlington wasn’t easy. The crew battled strong winds and rough waves, making their way at a slow pace. They finally reached the harbor around 7 PM, where they secured the fishing boat safely.
After handing over to the Coastguard, the lifeboat returned to the beach, where the crew cleaned and refueled it, ready for the next call by 8:45 PM.
Sean expressed his gratitude for the team’s hard work and dedication. He felt proud of how everyone handled the situation, making the rescue a success.
