Warrington Borough Council announces an 18-month closure of Peace Drive for renovations at the Peace Centre near St Gregory’s High School
Warrington: So, the council just dropped the news that Peace Drive is going to be closed for 18 months. They put out a notice about it, and it’s official.
This closure affects the road right outside the Peace Centre and St Gregory’s Catholic High School in Great Sankey. It starts on January 31, and they’re saying no driving or walking will be allowed there.
During this time, a contractor will manage access, so it’s not completely off-limits, but it’ll be tricky. If you need to walk around, you’ll have to take a detour through Sankey Way and Cromwell Avenue.
A council spokesperson mentioned that these restrictions are necessary for refurbishing the Peace Centre. They’re planning some big changes there.
They’re transforming parts of the Peace Centre to better serve students with special educational needs. This includes creating classrooms and multi-purpose spaces for post-16 and post-19 education.
Plus, they’re adding some cool outdoor facilities like an all-weather walking track, a horticultural learning area, and a playground. There’ll also be more parking for minibuses and a bigger area for drop-offs and pick-ups.
Don’t forget, the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Peace Foundation will still have a presence in the building. They’re keeping some office space and a multi-use area for activities.
Lastly, they’re also expanding the parking for St Gregory’s High School and making sure there’s a safe drop-off area along Peace Drive. It’s a lot of work, but it should be worth it in the end!
