Essex: As 2024 wraps up, the head of the Roads Policing Unit is looking back at a year filled with efforts to make the roads safer. They’ve been busy tackling dangerous driving and reducing accidents.

Mr. Adam Pipe, the head of the unit, shared how his team has been committed to keeping Essex roads safe. They’ve been out there enforcing the law and making sure everyone can drive without fear.

They patrol all kinds of roads, from busy highways to quiet country lanes. No matter where you are, safety is key. The team is determined to catch those who think they can break the rules without getting caught.

Working with local councils and other partners, they focus on various road-related issues. Their goal is to make sure everyone can travel safely, and they’re serious about it.

Throughout the year, they’ve held special days to address the “Fatal Four” driving offenses: speeding, not wearing seatbelts, using phones while driving, and driving under the influence. These are big contributors to serious accidents, and they want to raise awareness about the risks.

The collision prosecution team has been busy too, reviewing cases of dangerous driving. They’ve looked at over 200 incidents this year, taking action where needed.

Instead of going to court, many drivers accepted offers to improve their driving standards. Some even attended driving courses to learn better habits.

In December, they joined the national campaign against drink driving. Over one weekend, they arrested 30 drivers for various offenses, adding to the total of nearly 900 arrests made this year.

They want to remind everyone that there are safer choices than risking a drink or drug driving. The consequences can be severe, including losing your job or worse.

From September to November, they worked with partners to remove uninsured vehicles from the roads. They seized over 150 cars, vans, and bikes, focusing on keeping everyone safe.

These efforts also led to several arrests and numerous traffic reports for various offenses. In total, they’ve taken over 3,000 uninsured vehicles off the roads this year.

Mr. Pipe emphasized that their success wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of the Roads Policing Prosecutions team. They play a crucial role in bringing offenders to justice.

Between January and November, they processed thousands of cases, ensuring that those who break the law face the consequences.

Speed Enforcement Officers have also been active, monitoring speeding and working with communities to address concerns. They even engage with schools to help keep kids safe.

Mr. Pipe encourages everyone to get involved in road safety efforts. It’s a community responsibility, and every little bit helps.
