Roadworks have restarted on the Sydenham Bypass and several other routes in Belfast, aiming to minimize disruption for drivers.
Belfast: So, the Department of Infrastructure decided to kick off roadworks again on the Sydenham Bypass today. They had paused things back in November to avoid the holiday rush.
These resurfacing works are part of a big £3.8 million project. They’ll be working mostly at night and on weekends to keep traffic flowing as smoothly as possible.
During the week, the Belfast-bound lane will be closed from 10 PM to 6 AM, Monday through Thursday. Plus, there will be some weekend closures starting this Friday.
The DfI is aware of the traffic issues caused by the initial phase of the project. They’ve got traffic management plans in place to help out.
Drivers are advised to plan ahead and check TrafficwatchNI for updates. It’s all about making sure everyone knows what’s going on.
And it’s not just the Sydenham Bypass. Other roadworks across Northern Ireland are also back in action.
For instance, the A2 Shore Road in Strangford is undergoing resurfacing until March 14, with daily closures from 8 AM to 5 PM.
On Malone Road, the inner lane is closed at College Gardens for resurfacing, while the A24 Saintfield Road project is in its second phase and will last about 60 weeks.
There’s also work happening on the A20 Upper Newtownards Road, which started last August and is expected to continue until April 2025.
Lastly, the A5 Tullyvar Road will be closed for tree cutting on January 12, and there’s resurfacing work on Caledon Main Street in County Tyrone this week.
