Rochford: The council is gearing up to tackle fly-tipping with a fresh action plan. They’re looking to expand bulky waste collections and even start a new environmental enforcement team.

This year has seen some pretty notable fly-tipping incidents. For instance, there was a big mess outside Ashingdon Primary School back in March. And in August, a “bully-type” dog was found among a pile of dumped building materials on Mucking Hall Road.

It’s costing the council over £80,000 a year to clean up this rubbish. On average, they get two to three reports of fly-tipping every single day. Since 2012, they’ve seen around 600 incidents reported each year.

Chris Stanley, who heads the environment and climate change committee, mentioned they want to cut down on fly-tipping with this new policy. He’s hopeful that with the new year, they can make a real difference.

He pointed out that some people are tricky to catch, often using false number plates on their vehicles. But the council is determined to bring these offenders to justice.

Stanley also noted that the enforcement team is still in its early stages. They’re working on figuring out their duties, which will be discussed in the upcoming committee meeting.

He believes that expanding bulky waste collections could help prevent fly-tipping. They’re planning to consult with councillors to identify areas that need it the most.

There’s been a lot of dumping in places like Rawreth recently, and they’re keen to tackle this issue head-on. The council has disposal sites available, and they’re doing their best to keep fly-tipping under control.

The environment and climate change committee will meet on Thursday to go over the new plan and hopefully make some progress.
