Temple Meads train station’s roof repairs face further delays, now expected to finish in summer 2026 due to unforeseen issues
Bristol: So, the roof repairs at Temple Meads train station are taking longer than expected. They were supposed to wrap up this year, but now we’re looking at summer 2026. Crazy, right?
The work has been a bit of a mess. They’ve already done around 1,900 repairs, but it turns out there’s a lot more to fix than they thought. The scaffolding has been up for ages, and it’s really cramping the space on the platforms.
Network Rail is in charge of the repairs, and they’ve been blasting grit off the roof to check for damage. Unfortunately, they found more issues with the steelwork than they anticipated. It’s a slow process, but they’re trying to keep things moving.
They’re working in phases, which means they can keep the station running while they fix things. A spokesperson mentioned that they’re also restoring some timber work and replacing glazing. It’s all about making the station look nicer for passengers.
Besides the roof, they’re also sprucing up the old bar on platform three and planning to add new shops and a restaurant. Plus, they’re upgrading the electrics, which should make everything run smoother.
All this work is supposed to improve the passenger experience. They’re aiming to finish the rewiring by winter 2026, so it’s a long road ahead. But hey, at least they’re making progress, even if it’s slower than we’d like!
