Rossendale: This week, heartfelt tributes have been shared for those who left us over Christmas. It’s a tough time, and families are coming together to remember their loved ones.

Announcing a death is a tradition that many hold dear. We’ve gathered all the messages from this week in one spot for everyone to see.

Margaret Kerr-Ames

Margaret Kerr-Ames from Haslingden passed away peacefully at East Lancashire Hospice on December 21, surrounded by her loving family.

She was married to Bob for 60 years until he passed in 2015, and they had four daughters together. Margaret adored spending time with her family, including her nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Before retiring, she worked as an auxiliary nurse at Rossendale General Hospital. Margaret was passionate about learning and earned a degree in Cultural Studies from the University of Sheffield in 1989.

She loved meeting new people and enjoyed visiting her daughter in London to explore the city.

Margaret was active in her church community, first at Haslingden United Reform Church and later at Haslingden Baptist Church, where she became a Deacon. In 2021, she married Gordon Ames, and they shared many happy moments together.

Her funeral is set for Monday, January 6 at 10 am at St Veronica’s Church Hall, followed by a committal at Accrington Crematorium at 11 am. No flowers, please.

Donations in her memory can be made to the Parkinson’s Society through the funeral director.

Simon Clayton

Simon Clayton from Lower Stonefield, Rising Bridge, passed away on November 24 at Blackburn Hospital, at the age of 58.

He worked as a same-day courier and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Simon enjoyed playing darts, watching Leeds United, cycling, and listening to music.

He leaves behind his children and grandchildren. A service will be held on Thursday, January 9 at Burnley Crematorium at 1:45 pm.

Donations can be made to Rossendale Responsible Animal Rescue online.

(Mary) June Houliston

June Houliston of Rawtenstall passed away at East Lancashire Hospice on December 19, at the age of 77.

A retired civil servant, June loved traveling, walking, and spending time with her family. She leaves behind her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be on Monday, January 6 at Accrington Crematorium at 1:40 pm. Family flowers only, please, with donations to East Lancashire Hospice or Pancreatic Cancer UK.

James Thomas Whipp (Jim)

Jim Whipp passed away peacefully at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital on November 29, at the age of 64.

He is survived by his three daughters and many family members. Jim was a lifelong Burnley Football Club fan. His funeral will be on Friday, January 17 at 10:45 am.

Family flowers only, but donations to Beacon Dementia and Wellbeing are appreciated.

Annie Ashworth (nee McNulty)

Annie Ashworth passed away on December 18 at the age of 104.

She emigrated from County Mayo, Ireland, in the 1950s and worked in various roles, including as a cook and housekeeper. Annie was known for her kindness and love for her family.

Her funeral will include a reception and vigil on January 8, followed by Requiem Mass on January 9. Family flowers only, with donations to the British Heart Foundation if desired.
