Bempton Lane will remain closed for an additional month due to ongoing roundabout construction, impacting local traffic and residents.
Bridlington: So, it looks like Bempton Lane is going to be closed for another month. They’re working on that new roundabout, and it’s been a bit of a hassle for everyone.
The road was only open for a short time during the holidays, but it’s been shut since early September 2024. They really need to get this roundabout done.
Construction kicked off back in September, and it’s been a long process. They’re building this roundabout to make way for new homes on the north side of town.
They decided to close the road completely to get the job done right. A spokesperson from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council mentioned that this project could take up to six months.
For comparison, the roundabout on A165 took about 11 months to finish. The current project is expected to cost around £1 million, which is a bit less than the A165 project that ran about £1.8 million.
People have been talking about how long the road has been closed and how tough it is for pedestrians. The council said they can’t allow foot traffic because the area is too narrow and they’re digging all over the place.
They emphasized that this roundabout is crucial for the hundreds of new homes planned for the northern outskirts of Bridlington. It’s all part of a bigger plan that will roll out in phases over the next few years.
