Stuart Hogg faces a one-year community payback order after admitting to domestic abuse against his estranged wife
Selkirk: So, former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg has found himself in a bit of trouble. He’s been handed a one-year community payback order after admitting to some pretty serious domestic abuse charges against his estranged wife, Gillian.
At just 32, Hogg’s had a rough patch. He was already under a five-year non-harassment order and had to pay a fine for breaching bail conditions. Not a great look, right?
In court, it came out that he had been shouting and swearing at Gillian, which is just not okay. The judge decided he needs to do some supervised work in the community as part of his punishment.
Hogg’s behavior spanned over five years, causing his wife a lot of fear and alarm. They lived in places like Hawick and Exeter, where he played for the Exeter Chiefs, and it sounds like things got pretty intense.
He even tracked her movements using the Find My Phone app after they split in 2023, which is just crossing a line. Sending her hundreds of texts in a few hours? That’s a lot.
Despite all this, Hogg has had a stellar rugby career. He’s racked up a ton of caps for Scotland and even toured with the British and Irish Lions. He was awarded an MBE for his contributions to rugby union, which makes this whole situation even more shocking.
He did come out of retirement last summer to sign a two-year deal with Montpellier, but now he’s got to deal with the consequences of his actions off the field.
