A Russian spy filled an English hotel with surveillance gear, boasting of his spy skills in court
Great Yarmouth: So, there’s this Russian spy, Orlin Roussev, who was living in a seaside hotel in England. The place was packed with all sorts of surveillance gadgets. Can you believe it?
He was telling his handler that he felt like the character “Q” from James Bond, getting ready with his spy gear for some serious operations across Europe. Sounds like a movie plot, right?
Roussev, who’s 46 and from Bulgaria, has admitted to running this spy ring for the Russians. But three others involved are saying they didn’t do anything wrong. It’s a bit of a mess.
The court heard that they found a ton of high-tech equipment at his hotel room. Roussev even called it his “Indiana Jones warehouse.” How wild is that?
They seized over 3,500 items during the investigation, including devices that can capture mobile phone numbers. They were planning to use this stuff near a US military base in Germany to spy on Ukrainian soldiers. Yikes!
Luckily, their plans fell apart when they got arrested last February. It’s a good thing, too, because they were up to no good.
They also found some pretty sneaky gadgets, like necklaces with hidden cameras and even a Coke bottle with a camera inside. Talk about creative spying!
Roussev and another guy have pleaded guilty, but the others are still fighting the charges. It’s a wild story, and the trial is still going on.
