Salisbury: The Milford Area Preservation Group is all in for Milford Manor Care Home’s plans. They want to tear down an old two-storey wing from 1988 and put up a shiny new three-storey extension. This change aims to give residents a much better living space.

They’re also planning to spruce up the original manor house, which has been around since 1903 and looks like a Tudor castle. Wessex Care, the folks running the home, say the new wing will make the 30 bedrooms larger and add en-suite bathrooms for everyone.

Plus, they’ll install a new lift to replace the old one in the manor house. Wider corridors will help staff move wheelchairs and beds around more easily. They’ll also be taking out the old lift shaft and some walls that don’t belong to the original design.

The planning documents mention that the current care rooms are too small and lack the necessary en-suite facilities. They can’t really be fixed up to meet today’s standards, so they’ve decided to demolish the old wing and build a new one in a similar spot.

This new wing will have a dual-entry lift, making it accessible for everyone. The lift’s move will also let them restore the manor house’s original look, giving a clear view of the main stairway when you walk in.

The manor house will become a communal area for residents, featuring an assisted bathroom and a spot for visiting doctors. The Milford Area Preservation Group, which aims to protect the local area, is really excited about this project.

They believe it will enhance one of Milford’s iconic buildings by removing some awkward additions and that the new build will match the original manor’s style. They’re thrilled about the extra quality care this will bring to the community.

One member, Julia Mary Eastaugh, shared her personal experience. Her mother received excellent care at another facility, which helped her stay mobile. She’s all for improving care options in Salisbury.

Wiltshire Council is set to decide on these plans next week, so fingers crossed for a positive outcome!
