A schoolboy was taken into custody after fireworks were hurled at a home, causing a fire while people were inside
Dingle: Police were called out to the house on two separate occasions on the same night. It all kicked off on Garswood Street when a schoolboy decided to throw fireworks at a house where people were inside. The emergency services got the first call around 8:10 PM on January 8.
Initially, someone reported a firework aimed at the front door. Then, a few hours later, around 11:25 PM, the police got another call saying a window had been smashed and another firework was thrown inside.
Firefighters from Merseyside arrived at about 11:30 PM and found the living room on fire. Luckily, everyone inside managed to escape without injuries, but it was a close call.
One person was rescued, and two others got out before the firefighters arrived. The North West Ambulance Service was also there to check on everyone. One person did need to go to the hospital for further treatment.
Photos from the scene showed damage to the front door and window, and a cordon was set up as the investigation continued. A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of arson and criminal damage and is now in custody.
Detective Inspector Steve Street mentioned that this could have ended very badly. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the residents are understandably shaken. The motive behind the incident is still unclear, and police are looking into various leads.
