A second pair of lynx has been safely captured in the Highlands, bringing relief to the local community and conservationists alike
Inverness: The medium-sized lynx were caught on camera traps overnight on January 9th and 10th. The team from the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland set up humane traps to lure them in. They worked closely with Police Scotland and local rangers to keep an eye on the area.
Now, these lynx are headed to the Highland Wildlife Park for a health check by RZSS vets. After that, they’ll be quarantined at Edinburgh Zoo. The first pair was captured just a couple of days earlier.
Dr. Helen Senn, who leads conservation efforts at RZSS, expressed relief that the second pair was caught safely. She mentioned that they seem to be in good health, which is a huge relief for everyone involved.
It’s been a hectic 48 hours, with folks working around the clock in tough conditions. Dr. Senn praised the teamwork from staff, local partners, and the community to make this happen.
She also noted that the lynx will be quarantined for 30 days at Edinburgh Zoo. While they don’t expect to find more lynx in the area, monitoring will continue under Police Scotland’s guidance.
Police are still investigating how these animals ended up in the Highlands and are asking people to avoid the area, especially with the current weather. They’re working with animal experts to ensure everything is handled properly.
