Hereford: A Conservative MP, Sir David Davis, is stepping up to lead a debate in the House of Commons about Lucy Letby. He believes she should get a retrial.

Sir David has been digging into the details of Letby’s case. He thinks a new trial could lead to a different outcome. Letby, a former nurse, is currently serving 15 life sentences for the tragic deaths of seven infants.

She was found guilty at Manchester Crown Court for her actions at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016. The debate will focus on the role of expert witnesses in her trial.

Letby’s lawyers are also pushing for a fresh challenge to her convictions. They argue that the main medical expert’s reliability is questionable. Her barrister, Mark McDonald, is ready to take this to the Court of Appeal.

Interestingly, Dr. Dewi Evans, the expert in question, has changed his stance on how some of the infants died. However, he firmly denies the claims made by Letby’s legal team.

Sir David shared his thoughts on social media, saying he spent months looking into the case and believes Letby deserves another chance in court. He feels the evidence presented at the press conference supports his view.

Letby was convicted of using various methods to harm the infants in her care, including injecting air and poisoning. She has already lost two appeals against her convictions.

Meanwhile, the Thirlwall Inquiry is looking into the events at the Countess of Chester Hospital and what they mean for the future following Letby’s trial.
